Construction

We’ll help you keep your job site clean and green.

Rumpke has been keeping neighborhoods and businesses clean and green since 1932. Today, we are using our expertise to help construction companies effectively manage the waste produced at their job site. Construction and demolition projects produce an enormous amount of waste. Recycling these materials reduces demand for virgin resources and also lessens the environmental impact associated with extraction, processing and transporting these items. Recycling materials also cuts down on disposal costs and helps conserve landfill space. In addition to the environmental benefits, recycling material from your job site, can help you earn recognition in the industry through programs like the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification.

How the program works
Rumpke will place designated containers at your job site for the materials generated, i.e. metals in one container, wood in another, etc. This not only helps track the amount and type of materials diverted, but also creates higher value for the recyclable material. Each month, Rumpke will provide you with a detailed summary of the total cubic yards or total tonnage recycled or disposed of during the previous month and the material destination.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of material does Rumpke Construction recycling accept?
Rumpke is able to accept a variety of material from your site,* including:
• Metal
• Wood (untreated, clean wood and pallets that contain no chemicals or adhesives or contaminants such as paint, glue, tile or wallpaper)
• Glass
• Concrete
• Asphalt
• Masonry
• Gypsum
• Corrugated Cardboard
• Universal Waste & Electronic Waste
• Mixed Recyclables
• Compost
*Accepted materials may vary by market

Why do I have to have separate containers for each material?
Currently, separating materials is generally more cost effective than co-mingled recycling. Additionally, the separating process also helps ensure more valuable end markets for recyclables such as the manufacturing of new recycle-content building material. The greater the value of the materials, the more cost savings your company will obtain.

What size containers are available for this service?
Rumpke can provide 20, 30 and 40 cubic yard roll off containers for your job site. Please note that 40 cubic yard containers are only available for specific light weight materials. Twenty and 42 cubic yard lockable dumpsters are also available, as well as 6 and 8 cubic yard front load containers for cardboard and mixed recyclables and 95 gallon wheeled carts for mixed recyclables and trash.*
* 6 and 8 cubic yard front load containers and 95 gallon wheeled carts are not available in every market

Does Rumpke have lockable dumpsters?
Yes, Rumpke does offer 20 and 42 cubic yard lockable dumpsters. However, please note that if you select a lockable dumpster your volume will decrease because you will not be able to store as much material.

What is the cost difference between recycling materials and landfill disposal?
Pricing will vary for both recycling and landfill disposal based on material and location.
Sometimes recycling is more cost effective, and sometimes it is not. Contact your Rumpke Representative to ask specific questions about your project.

Does Rumpke provide documentation of diverted materials and material destination required for programs like the USGBC LEED program?
Prior to the start of your project Rumpke will provide you with site specific information regarding final destination of your recyclables or waste material. Additionally, each month, along with your invoice, Rumpke will provide you with a summary of the total cubic yards recycled or disposed of during the previous month.

Does Rumpke provide education for employees?
To help make your construction recycling program a success, we will work with your crew to educate them about the importance of placing materials in the correct containers. However, ultimately, it is your responsibility to make certain the on site construction personnel place the correct material into each container.
