Oxford, Ohio

The City of Oxford has partnered with Rumpke Recycling to offer a comprehensive curbside recycling program to its residents.

How do I sign-up?
Oxford residents can sign-up for curbside recycling collection by contacting the City of Oxford at 524-5221.

Is there a cost to recycle?
Residents can choose from

  • An 18-gallon recycling bin for $2.75 a month
  • A 65-gallon recycling cart for $3.75 a month

What day is my recycling collected?
Curbside recycling is collected the same day as your garbage. Rumpke sends a separate truck to collect the recyclable material to keep it separate from the trash.

What can I recycle?
Residents can recycle the following items in Rumpke Recycling’s curbside recycling program:

  • All plastic bottles and jugs (no lids) – NOTE: To be considered a plastic bottle, the top of the container must be smaller than the bottom.
  • Clean pizza boxes (free of food residue and grease)
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Catalogs
  • Phone books
  • Paper grocery bags
  • Junk mail
  • Office paper (any color)
  • Envelopes (with or without windows)
  • Paperboard (ex: cereal boxes)
  • Cardboard (must be clean)
  • Aluminum and metal cans
  • Empty aerosol cans (please remove lids and tips)
  • Glass bottles and jars (any color, please remove lids)

 Unacceptable items include:

  • Plastic containers that are not bottles such as whipped topping containers, butter tubs or food trays
  • Plastic bags
  • Motor oil jugs or other chemical containers
  • Sytrofoam
  • Plastic lids/caps
  • Window or drinking glass
  • Light bulbs
  • Coat hangers or steel scrap
  • Paint cans

Why can’t I recycle certain items?
We strive to accept as many items at possible. However, we cannot collect certain items because of contamination issue or lack of market availability.

  • Plastic caps/lids are not made of the same plastic as the bottle so they end up becoming a contaminant in the system.
  • Bowls, buckets, tubs, food trays and other non bottle/jug containers have a chemical additive that makes them act negatively in the recycling process.
  • Oil jugs or antifreeze are contaminants to a recycler’s cleaning process. Even if the bottle has been washed, our markets still identify it as an oil jug.
  • Film or plastic bag recyclingcompanies ask that these items be kept clean and dry, a task almost impossible in the recycling process. Your local grocer may recycle their own bags.
  • Window glass, drinking glass or light bulbs are chemically different than the glass in bottles and jars, making them contaminants.
  • Milk cartons are lined with plastic film, which is a contaminant.
  • Paint cans aren’t compatible with the recycling process.
  • Coat hangers and steel scrap are recyclable products, but Rumpke doesn’t accept them in curbside collection due to such a small volume. To recycle, try calling your local scrap dealer.
