Hilliard Recycles - Go Green Today!
Going green is easy in Hilliard. Rumpke will provide each residence with an 18-gallon recycling bin. Please contact the City of Hilliard about obtaining additional recycling bins.
Preparing for Pick-up:
Rumpke will maintain the same collection schedule as your previous hauler. Collection throughout Hilliard will occur on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Rumpke encourages you to place your materials at the curb or designated location for collection the evening before your scheduled pick-up day (all items must be placed out for collection before 7 a.m. on your collection day).
If you are physically disabled or impaired, please contact Rumpke to make special pick-up arrangements. Certification from the City of Hilliard may be required.
Trash & Yard Waste Containers:
Each resident is responsible for providing containers for trash and yard waste. All trash must be secured in bags or cans. Cardboard containers may be used for bulky or loose materials. As a safety precaution, each container must weigh less than 50 pounds, and wet cardboard containers may not be collected. Residents may rent a 96-gallon waste wheeler from Rumpke for $3 per month, billed annually for $36 per year.
Yard Waste Guidelines and FAQ:
- What is considered yard waste?
Yard waste typically consists of organic waste generated during regular household gardening and landscaping activities, such as grass clippings, leaves, twigs, branches, shrubbery and other garden residues.
- How should yard waste be prepared?
Loose Material: Place it in biodegradable (paper) bags or rigid containers. Contact the Hilliard Service Department or Rumpke for stickers to attach to containers designated for yard waste. Bags are generally available for purchase at home improvement or grocery retail stores. Please do not line the paper bags with plastic bags.
Branches: Cut branches to less than 4 feet in length. Tie the branches into bundles with string or twine. The diameter of each bundle should not exceed 2 feet.
Weight Restrictions: Each container, bag or bundle must weigh less than 50 pounds. Containers meeting this requirement will likely have a 30-35 gallon capacity.
Unacceptable Items: Examples include rocks, dirt and plastic bags. Please contact Rumpke at 1-888-786-7531 if you are uncertain about a type of material.
Bulky Items Pick-up:
Rumpke will collect bulky household items, such as appliances, carpet, furniture, child play equipment and mattresses, from the curb on your regular trash service day. Please contact Rumpke 24-hours in advance to schedule a bulk item pick-up.
- Appliances with Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC): For appliances such as refrigerators or personal air conditioner units, please have the CFC removed by a licensed technician prior to collection and attach the certification of removal to the appliance. Please contact Rumpke if you have questions about CFC removal.
- Home Remodeling Projects: Rumpke will collect trash resulting from minor home remodeling projects. Please prepare the debris like any other trash, not to exceed 50 pounds per container. Please follow the bulk item guides for large material. Contact Rumpke to make arrangements for removal of debris from larger projects, for which the resident will be charged.
Billing & Payment:
The City of Hilliard requires Rumpke to send an annual bill to every residential address. Rumpke offers a variety of payment options, including online, check, cash and credit card (convenience fee will apply). The annual charge must be paid by the current occupant or property owner. It is non-refundable and only pro-rated for new construction builds. The property owner is ultimately responsible for payment. Contact Rumpke if you would like the bill mailed to a different address.
- Senior Citizen Discount: Residents age 65+ who are the head of household are entitled to a 10 percent discount. To receive the discount, you must complete an application form at the City of Hilliard Administrative Office or online at www.cityofhilliard.com.
